CONTEXT
Deaths among newborns make up 44% of the 6 million annual deaths in children under five. Quality care in emergencies can save lives, but requires skilled, well-equipped healthcare workers. Simulated training in neonatal emergencies allow healthcare workers to practice skills and improve response times to reduce neonatal mortality and improve outcomes.
SOLUTION
Khora and Rigshospitalet has developed a VR-based training app that provides healthcare providers with a realistic, immersive environment for practicing neonatal emergency procedures. This project involves creating VR scenarios of critical neonatal events, such as resuscitation and respiratory support, aligned with established medical protocols.
IMPACT
The VR experiences was deployed via a custom app on headsets, guiding staff through multiple-choice decision-making. Each choice had immediate consequences and feedback. The VR training improved ambulance rescuers’ ability to handle high-stress situations, decision-making, and manage conflicts effectively.
