HEALTHCARE & RESEARCH
Explore how Khora uses XR to solve real world challenges across healthcare and professional settings. Through immersive patient journeys, VR can build empathy among healthcare professionals, reduce anxiety, and improve patient readiness before medical procedures. Interactive simulations can also strengthen training, professional onboarding, and sales presentations by making complex information easier to understand and experience. The cases below showcase projects developed with our clients and partners.
PATIENT COMFORT & READINESS
IMPROVE PATIENT COMFORT AND CONFIDENCE
XR can help reduce anxiety and prepare patients for surgery through calming environments, immersive distractions, and clear visual guidance. This supports better communication, greater confidence, and a more comfortable patient journey.
01 EASING DISCOMFORT THROUGH IMMERSIVE DISTRACTION
Immersive experiences can redirect a patient’s attention away from pain, anxiety, and discomfort during medical procedures. By surrounding patients with calming virtual environments, engaging stories, or interactive activities, VR reduces awareness of the clinical setting and creates a greater sense of comfort and control. This can make challenging procedures feel more manageable and support a more positive patient experience.
02 CREATING COMFORT THROUGH PATIENT PREPARATION
XR can help patients become familiar with what will happen before, during, and after an operation. Through guided virtual walkthroughs and clear visual explanations, patients can explore the procedure and clinical environment in advance. Knowing what to expect can reduce uncertainty, create a greater sense of calm, and help patients feel more confident and prepared.

360° VR RESEACH PROJECT
OPTIMIZE | VR FOR ANXIETY REDUCTION IN SURGERY
Can VR help patients feel calmer during awake surgery? Optimize uses immersive experiences to divert attention, reduce discomfort and limit the need for relaxing medication.
Optimize is a Danish and Swedish research project exploring new approaches to perioperative care. Alongside an automatic fluid monitoring system, the VR experience helps reduce reliance on sedatives and supports a safer, more comfortable patient journey. Together, the technologies aim to reduce complications and shorten hospital stays and recovery times.

360° VR PRODUCT
KHORA PRODUCT | COMFORT XR
How can children feel safer during needle procedures? Comfort XR uses immersive games to redirect attention away from anticipated pain and discomfort.
Developed with pain distraction specialists at Rigshospitalet, Comfort XR includes games for children from age four and supports both seated and lying procedures. The solution originated in a research project involving 64 children, which found VR to be as effective as other recognised distraction methods while achieving higher patient satisfaction during needle procedures.

TIMELAPS | TRANSFORMING CHEMOTHERAPY TIME PERCEPTION
Can VR make long chemotherapy sessions feel shorter? TIMELAPSE uses immersive experiences to ease patient stress and positively influence the perception of time during treatment.
TIMELAPSE is a dedicated VR application designed around theoretical models of time perception, emotion and patient needs. By making lengthy treatment sessions feel less burdensome, the project aims to improve mental wellbeing and support treatment adherence, contributing to more comfortable and humane cancer care.
PATIENT CENTRICITY & EMPATHY
EMPATHY THROUGH IMMERSIVE PATIENT JOURNEYS
We use immersive VR to place healthcare teams inside the patient journey, revealing emotional, clinical, and practical challenges that are difficult to understand from the outside. These shared experiences help identify real needs, improve communication, and support more responsive, inclusive, and patient centred solutions.
04 PATIENT CENTRICITY THROUGH IMMERSIVE JOURNEYS
Understanding the patient perspective is essential when designing better healthcare solutions. Through immersive VR, teams can experience emotional, clinical and practical challenges from the patient’s point of view. By exploring realistic care environments, procedures and complication scenarios, organisations can uncover unmet needs, strengthen empathy and align teams around more responsive, inclusive and patient centred care.
05 MAKING INVISIBLE SYMPTOMS FELT
Many symptoms are difficult to understand from the outside. XR can simulate selected sensory, cognitive and emotional effects of conditions such as hearing loss, visual impairment or dementia. While it cannot recreate the full experience of living with a disease, it can provide a powerful glimpse into everyday challenges, helping healthcare professionals, relatives and decision makers develop greater understanding, empathy and more responsive support.

WIDEX | ALLURE HEARING SIMULATION
What does hearing loss actually feel like? This immersive VR simulation makes an invisible condition tangible, contrasting fading everyday sounds with the clarity restored by hearing aid technology.
Created for Widex, the experience uses spatial audio to simulate the disorienting effects of hearing loss and demonstrate the impact of Widex Allure. Premiered at a global internal conference, it helped build empathy and understanding across teams while transforming a complex sensory condition into a clear and memorable story.
SALES & ONBOARDING
HEALTHCARE SOLUTIONS FOR TRANING
Healthcare products and procedures can be difficult to explain through presentations alone. XR creates interactive experiences that allow sales teams, healthcare professionals and customers to explore complex solutions, understand their value and learn how to use them in a clear and engaging way.
06 FROM PRODUCT DEMONSTRATION TO CONFIDENT USE
XR allows sales teams to demonstrate medical devices, treatments and workflows in realistic clinical contexts without requiring access to physical equipment or facilities. The same experience can support onboarding by guiding users through features, procedures and correct use at their own pace. This creates a consistent journey from the first sales presentation to confident everyday application.
07 PREPARING STAFF FOR CRITICAL SCENARIOS
XR simulations allow healthcare professionals to practise complex and potentially life threatening situations before facing them in real clinical environments. Staff can repeat procedures, make decisions under pressure and learn from mistakes without putting patients at risk. By building familiarity, confidence and teamwork in advance, immersive training helps professionals respond more effectively when every decision and second matters.
